We have an ongoing need for an Aerodynamics Engineer SME to support the DARPA Tactical Technology Office (TTO) in Arlington, VA.
Duties will include but are not limited to: - Providing a range of support within your area of expertise and experience, to the Government Program Manager, in developing and implementing an ongoing Science and Technology (S&T) program - Providing oversight and engineering management of activities related to the derivation of aerodynamic design requirements from top-level performance requirements, conceptual, preliminary and detailed aerodynamic design, development of aerodynamic databases using various analytical methods, wind tunnel and flight test planning and execution - Working closely with the Government team throughout the life-cycle of the program, including coordinating with the upper management of all stakeholders - Performing independent technical reviews of performer efforts, providing design and process improvement recommendations - Aiding in the development of new tools, techniques, and processes - Reviewing acquisition related documents - Development and engineering design reviews and readiness reviews - Management of verification efforts for key performance objectives - Ground testing, flight tests or simulations - Post-test analysis activities and review and analysis of test data - Preparing briefs and meeting minutes - Reviewing and providing recommendations for CDRLs and other documents - Responding to official requests for information and other tasks from Government clients and stakeholders - Advising Government clients on incoming technical proposals and white papers - Discussing new ideas for Government programs with researchers - Tracking the progress of contracted researchers on their Government programs, including independent testing, and eventual technology transition to end users - Participating in key intra- and interagency meetings - Working in a dynamic team environment, interact with performer and customer senior-level management - 10 – 15% travel may be required - Work will be performed on-site with some telework available
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: - Active Top Secret (TS) clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility - Bachelor of Science (BS) degree preferably in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field (Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline or field preferred) - Minimum of 15 years’ work experience, with at least 5 years in subject matter expert or engineering leadership positions - Demonstrated record of technical achievement on flight vehicle programs such as guided rockets, cruise missiles, or aircraft - An expert understanding of aerodynamic design principles and their application on missile systems - Experience with flight vehicle conceptual and detailed design, CFD analysis, wind tunnel testing, and flight testing - Experience with systems flying in transonic and hypersonic flight regimes - An understanding of flight performance and 6-DOF modeling and simulation - Familiarity with MATLAB, FORTRAN, C, or similar high-level programming language - Demonstrated experience on multidisciplinary teams on large, complex, multi-phase programs - Working knowledge of the Department of Defense research and development and acquisition processes
DESIRED EXPERIENCE: - Experience with aerodynamic and hydrodynamic flow - Experience with structures and loads aligned with seaplane launch and landing - Prior experience as a SETA - Prior experience at DARPA - Prior experience with programs related to national defense - Ability to prepare and present technical and programmatic information for diverse audiences Experience developing plans, budgets and schedules
