Job Summary

The Walgreens Health Marketing Technology (MarTech) team brings together systems, data, and operations to deliver best-in-class marketing technologies. The team enables and empowers Walgreens Health marketing and analytics teams with marketing customer management capabilities, big data analytics solutions, and operational support.

The Director of Marketing Technology for Walgreens Health leads MarTech strategy and operations to support the business and marketing objectives of Walgreens Health. Serving as the liaison with a number of cross-functional partners, including Marketing, Engineering, and Product Management, the Director leads the capture, review, and prioritization of MarTech project requirements and leads the specification, communication, and continuous evolution of planned MarTech deliverables and priorities to meet business objectives and drive the success of Walgreens Health. The Director is responsible for Walgreens Health MarTech stack tool decisions, technical implementation, and issue remediation, working collaboratively with other stakeholders across WBA. This Director will need to be comfortable doing hands on coding work.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads Marketing Technology strategy and operations to support the business and marketing objectives of Walgreens Health.
  • Leads the capture, review, and prioritization of MarTech project requirements by partnering with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Engineering, and Product Management, and leads the specification, communication, and continuous evolution of planned MarTech deliverables and priorities to meet business objectives and drive the success of Walgreens Health.
  • Leads Walgreens Health MarTech stack tool decisions, technical implementation, and issue remediation, working collaboratively with other stakeholders across WBA.
  • Leads Walgreens Health MarTech resource planning and roadmap development.
  • Builds, leads, and mentors a highly capable technical team skilled in innovative approaches to Marketing Technology. Fosters a culture of collaboration, trust, and technical expertise.
  • Effectively engages and manages team members who work remotely.
  • Leads the delivery of innovative, high-quality solutions aligned with the mission of the Walgreens Health team.
  • Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to support the development of an overall MarTech roadmap and to define and drive critical implementation decisions.
  • Leads the implementation and ongoing operational excellence of email, mobile, direct mail, search, and affiliate marketing systems, marketing partner integration (e.g., tags and feeds), analytics capabilities, web analytics (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics), loyalty, and other marketing technology components across Walgreens Health.
  • Leads the establishment, implementation, and execution of test vs. control methodology to quantify, analyze, and provide insights to understand campaign lift for Walgreens Health marketing; responsible for the development and delivery of a marketing measurement roadmap focused on continuous improvement and testing.
  • Leads the development and operation of key marketing reporting mechanisms, including dashboards and reports.
  • Leads ongoing marketing analytics delivery to provide insights for better decision-making.
  • Leads the assessment and onboarding of new marketing technologies for Walgreens Health and serves as a key stakeholder to align evaluation, planning, and decision-making cross-functionally.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on Marketing Technology and remains up to date on MarTech industry and innovations that align with the business goals of Walgreens Health.
  • Leverages industry experience and a deep understanding of Marketing Technology to proactively identify and escalate significant strategic and operational risks; to communicate risks and issues clearly and effectively to cross-functional stakeholders; and to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external resources to mitigate risks and resolve issues.
  • Leads the development and adoption of processes for the Marketing Technology function and leads review and refinement of processes in order to support evolving business goals.
  • Evolves and improves the MarTech function within Walgreens Health, including enhancements to development methodology, software tools, and reporting.
  • Prepares a budget and manages resources and spending to meet business objectives with capital efficiency.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 8 years of experience in managing the integration of marketing technology and marketing application software across an organization’s technology landscape OR High School/GED and at least 11 years of experience in managing the integration of marketing technology and marketing application software across an organization’s technology landscape
  • At least 10 years of technology-related and/or marketing-related experience, ideally in technology and operations roles
  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing analytics and tracking tools (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, tag management systems, etc.) and reporting and dashboard development
  • At least 4 years of experience implementing customer-facing automated marketing programs, working collaboratively with marketing and technology partners
  • At least 3 years of exposure to and experience with marketing technology vendors or products to enhance marketing capabilities, enabling self-service for business users, automation, and documentation aiding data governance and compliance
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced level skill with digital marketing technology including marketing automation, web analytics platforms, etc., and familiarity with marketing channels (web, email, social media, search engine marketing, etc.)
  • Experience translating business needs and marketing plans into technical requirements and vice versa
  • Experience leading marketing technology and project management processes and familiarity with project management tools such as Atlassian Jira
  • Experience with current privacy and compliance requirements related to customer and personal data (CCPA, GDPR)
  • Master’s degree in in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or other related fields in engineering or science
  • Experience with Adobe’s Marketing Technology tools
  • Advanced level skill with data exchange portals and encryption protocols
  • Experience with marketing technology in the healthcare space
  • Experience managing team members who work remotely
