Job Summary
Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related instruments for highly strategic and complex/high risk undertakings for the Walgreens Digital/Online applications. Plays a leading role in new software design and development. Typically assigned to Implementation activities that generally impact multiple components / processes and the work of own and several other units / teams / projects. Has demonstrated expertise in software design, architecture and software and system interrelationships.
Job Responsibilities
Implements activities that impact the critical directions of the organization; typically assigned to the most critical and strategic / complex / high risk undertakings
Writes code that establishes coding specifications, typically for software programs and systems that have no precedent
Guides in developing the technical "vision" and design specifications for assigned projects and oversees implementation
Interacts with internal and external peers and leaders to develop unprecedented solutions that affect several departments
Uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters
Owns the development and rollout for an entire product, or large project
Champions process (Scrum, TDD, etc.)
Recognized internally and externally as an authority in the field
Determines leading edge technical / business approaches and/or develops major new technical instruments
Works on assignments / objectives that regularly require the use of innovation
Works on issues that impact design/selling success or address future concepts, products or technologies
Evangelizes new ideas, technologies and solutions to gain acceptance from a wide range of audiences
Creates formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the organization
Writes tech specs and identifies risks before starting major projects
Goes above and beyond to reduce complexity
As needed, takes on additional “tech lead” responsibilities for delivering an initiative to completion

Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years OR High School/GED and at least 11 years Engineering, Software Engineering or related field
Experience writing code for highly complex and strategic online applications, microservices or mobile applications
Experience in algorithms, systems, architecture and bits-and-bytes
Experience with programming languages important to the organization and has in-depth knowledge of Unix/Linux, C++ or Java or Node and Service Oriented Architecture
Experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring team members
At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the organization
At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership
Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state)
Preferred Qualifications
Web/backend
Experience leading the design, development, and deployment of successful cross-functional projects in support of next generation web & services platform for Walgreens
Experience decomposing complex problems into simple, straight forward solutions
Experience facilitating technical collaboration across IT, increasing productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience
Experience assisting directly and indirectly in continual hiring and development of technical talent
Experience in design, development, security & scalability of high-volume services implemented in Java, Node/Typescript, .NET, or Python etc.
Strong demonstrated experience of Enterprise Integration Design patterns in development of loosely coupled & resilient systems
Experience with UI frameworks like React with excellent knowledge of client-side security & front-end design pattern (stateless components, conditional rendering, controlled components, hooks etc.)
Experience in design, development, query & database optimization of distributed SQL (e.g., Oracle, MySQL) & NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases
Strong knowledge of implementation, security, capacity planning & performance tuning of solutions deployed to Cloud technologies – Azure (ACS, AKS), Google, IBM, AWS or Cloud Foundry
