Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, RWE (Real World Evidence) Clinical Trials, the Proposal Director is a key management role in our sales organization responsible for developing and delivering winning proposals for complex solutions. This role will lead the preparation of business to business (B2B)proposals and bids in response to sales opportunities and Request for Proposals (RFPs) / Request for Information (RFIs). Working closely with the extended sales team and executive leadership, the Proposal Director will act as a cross-functional partner with the other areas of the Clinical Trials business. This role will streamline the way that we manage our proposal development processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct and execute the development of multiple complex proposals in a fast-paced, client-focused, deadline-driven environment.
  • Leads the development of strategic content and budgets for proposals in response to sales opportunities and RFP/Is, ensuring consistency in approach, metrics, and format.
  • Lead internal business development meetings and strategy discussions to ensure clear scope of work, gain insights into projects, and understand key messages. Provide strategic leadership to manage stakeholders at all levels and ensure they are included in content creation and approval of deliverables and timelines within the proposal process.
  • Lead the completion of complex proposals across multiple business segments within time frames established, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and readability. Including refining and scaling proposals whilst maintaining consistency among business areas.
  • Synthesize feasibility results from Walgreens enterprise data assets, application of pricing associated with results and clinical trial activities
  • Translate the needs of customers to enable clinical, operational and data science colleagues to understand and address issues with acceptable language and within agreed upon guardrails.
  • Manage team that tracks all in-flight proposals, including monitoring progress with designated contract / proposal management system (CRM) including win/loss status and customer feedback.
  • Direct internal review process in adherence to timelines including kickoff and checkpoint meetings from receipt of proposal request through final submission ensuring stakeholders are engaged.
  • Build and manage repository of proposal content, responses, best practices, and centralized pricing to populate project details in real time to assure alignment with scope updates and changes
  • Collaborate with marketing and executive leadership to ensure content is competitive and fit for purpose to maintain a competitive value proposition.
  • Work closely with contracting and finance teams to transition projects after award.
  • Work in collaboration with Compliance, Privacy and/or Legal professionals to determine approach necessary for contracting.
  • Provide team leadership, develop and mentor staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; build and maintain employee morale and motivation; ensure the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years OR High School/GED and at least 9 years experience in healthcare proposal writing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, English, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent work experience as a proposal manager.
  • At least 7 years’ experience leading complex proposals in a fast-paced, B2B environment – life sciences and/or SaaS technology
  • Experience in Pharma / Life Science
  • Advanced MS PowerPoint, Word & Excel skills, knowledge of Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of proposals and budget processes and ability to interpret budgets and protocol.
  • Must be proactive and efficient with exceptional time management, organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with various team members at different levels of the organization.
  • Attention to detail & commitment to delivering high quality work product.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
