Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Manager, the Power Plant Mechanic - Lead is responsible for day-to-day preventative maintenance and repair of the Energy Center Phoenix at the Arizona State University power, steam and chilled water facilities, while assisting with maintenance activities at the downtown Phoenix plants as needed. The primary objective is to ensure the plants are operated and maintained with regard to the priorities in order: Safety, Reliability and Efficiency.


Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on plant equipment.
Initiate work requests in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for plant equipment requiring maintenance and meet weekly with department manager to schedule, plan, and coordinate work.
Reviews and understands the operating and maintenance requirements of the main plant, remote plants, and distribution system.
Interprets technical manuals, sketches, prints, instructions, manufacturer's data and equipment history records and incorporates the applicable information in developing work plans.
Identifies opportunities to improve O&M work processes and leads problem solving analysis when required to address issues and corrective actions while sharing lessons learned and best practices.
Complete all necessary logs, records, maintenance, documentation and plant paperwork as required.
Coordinate with operations lead for initiating LOTO's in computer-based program (Red Tag).
Lead pre-job briefings, review and assist department manager with weekly and daily work assignments, and attend daily meetings with other operations lead and plant management.
Acquires and reviews bids and oversees contractors for maintenance and other services. Provides coordination between contractors, consultants, and material suppliers on plant projects.
Support plant management in providing training for plant personnel as subject matter expert.
Directs and coaches technical teams in the day-to-day performance of maintenance and operations processes to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and maintenance of all plant equipment and systems.
Plans and executes routine project maintenance and supports major maintenance and capital replacement projects utilizing CCE Project Management Policies.
Ensures that all safety policies and regulations are followed, and all daily work is executed in accordance with CCE safety policies. Performs pre-job briefs for critical work activities.
Ensures full compliance with all environmental regulations with a goal of zero exceedances, reportable spills or other violations.
Responsible for ordering and inventory management of spare parts and other plant supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned by plant management (i.e., facility cleaning, customer heat exchangers, etc.)


Experience and Education

High School diploma or equivalent.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years of steady work experience, maintaining power, steam, and/or chilled water equipment.
Hands on maintenance and troubleshooting experience with central heating and cooling plants.
Proficiency in contract management and proven skills in leading/directing contractors.
EPA section 609 universal refrigeration certificate is a plus.

Knowledge and experience in working with power, steam and/or chilled water equipment.
