American Spoon is hiring a full-time Assistant to the Manager, Maintenance Technician. The primary job responsibility is to support our Maintenance Manager to ensure maximum availability of our production line machinery and equipment by increasing our production ability and efficiency. The focus is to keep our specialty artisan food production facility running, without unplanned down-time, keep equipment and machinery serviced, updated, and running effectively to reduce the likelihood of breakdowns and production stoppages. Assistant to the Maintenance Manager General Job Duties and Functions
Perform basic equipment diagnosis
Disassemble/reassemble equipment to repair/replace worn or defective parts as needed
Troubleshoot, install, and repair ac/dc motors, starters, relays, and drives
Install new equipment and understand technical manuals, read blueprints
Purchase replacement parts necessary to make equipment repairs
Perform preventive maintenance per planned schedules.
Clean and lubricate machinery.
Inspect equipment operating conditions and locate root causes of equipment problems
Added requirements aiding Maintenance Manager:
To identify the underlying trends for machinery productivity and conduct period audits to identify improvement
With ongoing analyses of the unplanned machinery history. Identify patterns, parts replacements and breakdowns of equipment
that are failing frequently and/or responsible for most of the unplanned work stoppage or shutdowns
To develop an ongoing planned/preventative maintenance schedule to maintain equipment necessary for efficient operations
Such as:
a. completing small tasks after the closing of shift, larger jobs during non-production shifts
b. Planning, implementing, a contingency plan for an emergency repair during production working hours if needed
c. Communicating timelines to other department managers
d. Securing parts, and any other support needed to avoid excessive downtime
Maintain a spare parts inventory to optimize parts stock-holding levels to avoid understocking and overstocking.
Maintain a clean, safe, secure, clutter free, organized workspace and developing ongoing storage solutions for tools, parts, and maintenance supplies
Establishing a set of maintenance department KPI's [key performance indicators] to stay current and to track progress i.e., maintenance project backlog, specified time of repair, preventative maintenance, departmental communication, and compliances
Aid with the prioritization of equipment according to business need, considering age, risk factors, and impact of downtime. Make recommendations and cost analysis for replacement parts or new purchases
Maintain standardized procedures throughout our facility allowing efficient allocation of resources [including maintenance] to maximize production
Compliance of Food Safety and MIOSHA standards when applicable
Other duties as assigned
Education/ExperienceThe ideal candidate must have at least 3 years industrial experience OR have a minimum of 4 years' experience as a maintenance mechanic in an industrial manufacturing facility. Must have a valid driver's license, High School Diploma or equivalent GED, verifiable work experience and a strong mechanical aptitude.
