Under general supervision of the Streets Work Crew Supervisor, the purpose of the position is to operate light to medium automotive equipment in performing Public Works maintenance and repair. Employees in this classification perform skilled work. Position is responsible for operating dump trucks, tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, bobcats, rollers, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, and other maintenance equipment; preparing and maintaining records of work performed; and performing general maintenance on equipment. Performs related work as required.
Operates a variety of varied purpose equipment in street maintenance, road and right-of-way maintenance; includes driving commercial vehicles and operating light and heavy equipment such as jack hammers, tampers and generators.
Repairs general labor, potholes, concrete, asphalt signs, storm sewer and fences; repairs roads; paints road markings; performs asphalt paving.
Takes down and changes signs; installs new signs.
Picks up trash from roadsides; cleans ditches; cleans storm sewers; participates in leaf collection.
Services and makes minor repairs to equipment; transports equipment.
Flags traffic, if certified, during road and right-of-way maintenance.
Maintains time and material records.
Sets up and breaks down for special events; works at special events, including Herndon Festival.
Performs snow and ice removal.
Assists other crews as assigned to include the refuse crew.
Performs other related duties as required.
High school diploma or GED
One (1) to two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving equipment operation and Public Works maintenance
Possession of a valid commercial driver's license with acceptable driving record
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m
