Position: ENGINEER II / R&D Support
Location: Washington, DC
Required Clearance: Secret
Description:
KMS Solutions is seeking an experienced engineer to provide R&D support to the Undersea Special Mission Systems program office (PMS 390) located at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC. PMS 390's mission includes: Assessment/Underwater Work System (AUWS), Submarine Rescue System-Rescue Capable System (SRS-RCS), and the Submarine Rescue System-Submarine Decompression System (SRS-SDS). They are also responsible for the coordination of R&D initiatives, acquisition, test and evaluation, in-service support, and recommends certification of Dry Deck Shelter (DDS) and Special Operations Forces (SOF) Host Submarine Systems. This includes responsibility for future SOF Undersea Mobility Systems and technical support for all matters pertaining to SOF Undersea Mobility; and other projects as directed. This position specifically supports the Special Operations Forces branch and is responsible for analyzing available information to identify technical problems, defining the nature and extent of the problems, and developing recommendations for addressing these issues.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Collecting, reviewing, and analyzing operations and information associated with Special Operations Forces (SOF) platforms and assessing against emerging related technological improvements.
- Analyzing relevant technical and programmatic data.
- Preparing and solving mathematical models
- Tracking reviews of Technical Data Packages (TDPs) for SOF Carry on Hardware (COH) products.
- Working with Technical Warrant Holders, Ship Design Managers, and other key stakeholders to reach adjudication of comments and receive concurrence for COH TDPs.
- Managing changing priorities and timelines, tracking and reporting technical branch metrics and drafting approval letters for projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or similar technical field.
- Knowledge of Department of Defense and associated acquisition processes.
- SECRET DoD security clearance.
Highly desired experience:
- At least 4 years of relevant experience as a project lead.
- Knowledge of Deep Submergence Systems Scope of Certification
- Familiarity of SOF Assets to include Dry Deck Shelters and SOF Host Submarines
- Familiarity with Department of Navy and associated procurement processes.
- Familiarity with TEAM SUB and associated procurement processes.
- Familiarity with Naval Sea Systems Command and associated Program Offices
- Familiarity with submarine platforms and systems.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, with some flexibility in work hours provided the employee is available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Travel: 10% travel is expected for this position, which will be under the guidelines of the Federal Travel Regulations and/or Joint Travel Regulations.
