ABOUT THIS POSITION

KBR requires a System/Software Engineer. This is a remote position supporting the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) through the Maintenance Systems (MxS) Program Management Office (PMO). The MxS PMO is responsible to ensure Information Systems (IS) are fully integrated across the F-35 weapons system enterprise to meet the demands of a growing fleet of aircraft fielded around the world. This highly complex mission area requires specialized skills and expertise.

The candidate should be experienced and successful at administering and executing the technical and management processes for establishing and maintaining consistency of a product’s performance, functional, and physical attributes with its requirements, design, and operational information throughout the product life cycle. The successful candidate should enjoy working in a dynamic, responsive, and collaborative environment, and dedicated to the success of our customers and their training needs. The candidate must work well with a widely dispersed team and be assertive in capturing key inputs and data to incorporate into various products on a daily basis. The candidate must also have excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and active listening). Proficiency with developing presentations (PowerPoint) and written documents for executive-level review and consumption is necessary. Familiarity with DoD 5000.02 acquisition policies and processes, a plus, but not required. Likewise, familiarity with DoD and international military protocols, customs and courtesies, is a plus, but not required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with establishing mid- and long-term strategic engineering initiatives, coordinating very closely with the Mx Sys PMO data, hardware, software, and infrastructure teams
  • Assist the Maintenance Systems Engineering team to produce a Product Specification (e.g., reference design architecture, industry standards, etc.) for the as-delivered ALIS and ODIN products
  • Support the development of a System Specification for future versions of ALIS/ODIN
  • Coordinate with other internal and external organizations to include Office of the Chief Information Officer, 309th Software Engineering Group, and prime support contractors on key engineering initiatives
  • Conduct searches for and identify GOTS and COTS products, which could be used to replace existing ALIS/ODIN products to reduce cost and to improve reliability
  • Develop action plans for incorporating software from alternate sources, including ECPs, software sustainment plans, and plans for addressing the interfaces between software from different vendors
  • Provide support to the airworthiness process, establish baselines with proper documentation and performing/participating in audits (Contractor FCA/PCA activities, Government’s FCA/PCA of its Prime Contractors)
  • Assist the government in developing program requirements and manage those requirements using configuration management tools
  • Analyze the impacts of the configuration management change process on lifecycle sustainment
  • Develop reports and briefings, plan and participate in Technical Interchange Meeting (TIMs), Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (including SRR, PDR, FCA, PCA, etc.), and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams
  • Using Microsoft Office suite of applications/tools to develop and publish products for senior executive review, coordination and approval
  • Establishing timelines for both quick-turn and longer-term projects and tracking progress through completion
  • Prepping senior leader(s) for meetings and engagements, ensuring all relevant information is conveyed and understood to support discussions and decision-making
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Travel: Occasional travel required (15-20%) to various contractor and user locations

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • DoD Clearance Requirement: Secret
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of related engineering experience
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles, airworthiness criteria, development of verification and certification requirements
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills is a must

The System/Software Engineer must demonstrate comprehensive experience/knowledge of:

  • Engineering & Manufacturing Development/Technology Maturation & Risk Reduction (EMD/TMRR) experience
  • Experience with Systems Engineering Fundamentals and Requirements Management
  • Experienced with Product Life Cycle Management tools
  • Experienced with Enterprise Resource Planning tools
  • Engaging with customers at both working and senior levels
  • Developing and executing project/program plans from tasking through completion using common IT tools and practices
  • Knowledgeable in the application of distribution statements, CUI, destruction notices, and FAR/DFARS data rights clauses
  • Professional writing skills, to include Staff Summary Sheets (SSS)
  • Prepping senior leader(s) for meetings and engagements, ensuring all relevant information is conveyed and understood to support discussions and decision-making

The Candidate must display practical and demonstrated engineering skills with emphasis on communication and stakeholder engagement with the following required skills:

  • Candidate must possess strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with DoD 5000.02 acquisition policies and/or mission transition or centralization projects is ideal, but not required
  • Experience working in the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center or other DoD organization is highly desired
  • Experience working directly or indirectly in support of the F-35 enterprise
