Kulicke and Soffa, the pioneer and market leader in wire bonding, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to help drive process control performance for its bonding machines. You will develop the embedded and electronic systems that underpin K&S’s proprietary controls including digital, analog, power, and mixed-signal design.


Main Responsibilities

  • Multilayer PCB design and verification using Altium Designer®
  • Develop embedded systems that support real-time distributed control, multiprocessing, high-throughput low-latency data transfer, and demanding data analysis/visualization applications
  • Develop high-speed communication interface hardware designs using PCI Express®, SERDES, USB, and Ethernet fieldbus (EtherCAT®, POWERLINK, etc.) and perform timing analysis of the same
  • Perform signal integrity analysis using HyperLynx® SI/GHz and supervise layout of controlled impedance PCBs
  • Perform PCB, cable, and system design verification using an SI network analyzer and serial data analyzer
  • High-flex cable design for interconnecting bonder systems using Zuken™ E3.cable
  • Collaborate with Mechatronics team members in the research and development of new sensors, actuators, and controls
  • Collaborate with other EE team members to develop FPGA IP and firmware for interfacing with A/D and D/A converters, sensors, power electronics, and other hardware sub-systems
  • Coordinate production release of PCB and cable designs via Siemens Teamcenter®
  • Generate specifications and documentation for new designs
  • Perform bring-up, troubleshooting, and debugging of new designs and field issues


Desired Skills and Experience

  • Controlled impedance PCB design and layout
    • Experience with Altium Designer® is a plus
  • Linear and switching discrete power amplifier design
  • Thermal management including heatsink and forced air cooling specifications and testing
  • Signal and power cable design including shielding and high-flex applications
    • Zuken™ E3.cable experience is a plus
  • High-speed digital communication interfaces and designing with the same
    • CompactPCI® Serial, PCI Express®, SERDES, or Ethernet experience is a plus
  • Multi-gigabit signal integrity and timing analysis
    • Design verification using a SI network analyzer/TDR and/or serial data analyzer experience is a plus
  • C programming for participating in firmware, BSP, device driver, kernel module, and test software development
    • Experience with FPGA IP, Verilog HDL, and/or Synopsis® Design Constraints a plus
  • Familiar with understanding datasheets and hardware manuals
  • Familiar with using lab equipment such as digital oscilloscopes and logic/protocol analyzers

Required Education

  • BSEE with minimum 5 years experience, MS/PHD EE with minimum 3 years experience
