Responsibilities

  • Prepare microscopic slides on tissue for diagnostic purposes; includes fixation, dehydration, infiltration, embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include both paraffin processed tissue and frozen sectioning
  • Perform histochemical and immunohistochemical stains on a variety of tissues to assist in diagnosis
  • Process specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry
  • Prepare and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications
  • Maintain laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality assurance control; assists with teaching and implementation of new procedures
  • Perform disposal of hazardous substances (i.e. formalin and tissue)
  • Monitor Morgue Refrigeration alarm
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applied science. In lieu of a degree, 4 or more years of relevant Histology experience may suffice.
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience as a Histotechnologist if degree requirements met.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Current and active American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification HT (Histotechnologist) certification/ HTL (Histotechnologist) certification
