DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Escorting patients to exam room and assists in determining medical problems.2. Takes vital signs (blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, pulse, respiration, and asks about the patients' level of pain). 3. Properly documenting results in medical record.4. Assists patients in patient flow through the health center. 5. Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing.6. Stock supplies in exam rooms.7. Sterilizes instruments.8. Checks appointment schedule and assists receptionist with provider patient schedules. May have to cover for receptionists during the lunch period or in their absence. 9. Label and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers tests and obtains results.10. Completes laboratory requisitions.11. Ensures that lab reports, x-rays and other information are in patients records prior to their visit. 12. Assists providers and nurses with procedures and treatments as directed. 13. Issues outpatient material. Assists in application and patient instruction. 14. Schedules patients for testing procedures. 15. If applicable, translates for provider in the language of the patient. 16. Maintain strictest confidentiality. 17. Attends required meetings, and in-services, and participates in committees/team as requested. 18. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate manager or practice administrator.RequirementsRequired:1. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. 2. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. 3. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. 4. Skill in taking vital signs. 5. Skill in maintaining records and recording tests results. 6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. 7. Ability to maintain quality control standards. 8. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. 9. Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions. 10. Ability to communicate clearly.Required1. High School Diploma. 2. Graduate of an accredited medical assistance program 3. Connecticut Medical Assistant LicensePreferred1. 1 year of clinical experience 2. Bilingual in Spanish and English
