Job Summary and Qualifications

The OR Service Lead Tech Coordinator demonstrates advanced knowledge, skills and understands the unique aspects of the population served in the care of his/her patients. Each service also requires specialized skills. The delivery of care is based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and learning needs of the individual patient. The OR Service Lead Tech may rotate to areas other than his/her assigned service area/s, and will perform only those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The OR Service Coordinator performs delegated duties consistent with the scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery at SMC. The OR Service Lead Tech incorporates all of the duties as above, and functions as a resource in all aspects of aseptic technique, consistent back table set up, sterile supplies and equipment. This OR Service Lead Tech will participate in the development of new orientation programs, assisting with student practicums and developing additional training/education as it relates to the surgical scrub role.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current BLS certification through AHA or ARC; current CST certification by the Liaison Council on Certification.
  • Graduate of a certified high school/GED; graduate of accredited program for operating room technician.
  • Prefer five years of experience as a surgical tech, with two years experience in specialty services.
  • Demonstrates good clinical skills and leadership qualities. Demonstrates good organizational skills. Provides safe and appropriate patient care within the scope of practice for the Perioperative area, relative to the role of the surgical technician. 
  • Displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills. 
  • Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. 

The following when applicable: 

  • 1. Demonstrates competence with patient care information systems including Meditech, and Microsoft Office programs. 
  • 2. Strong planning, analytical and written skills. 
  • 3. Basic understanding and ability to function in a variety of services in the OR. 
  • 4. Ability to utilize database, spreadsheet, word processing to conduct analysis of OR statistical reports. 
  • 5. Ability to educate staff using adult learning principles. 
  • 6. Must be competent as a Surgical Tech III.
