Job Summary of the Echo Technologist
Responsible for performing all assigned diagnostic ultrasound exams in a timely manner. Performs procedures according to physician’s orders or per prescription on outpatients. As a member of the care team, the Echo Technician is responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure safe and accurate delivery of patient care. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities of the Echo Technologist
  • The Echo Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, diagnostic tests which include Adult Echocardiogram, TEE’s and Pharmacologic/Exercise Cardiac Stress Testing.
  • Maintain professional standards and seeks professional growth.
  • Provide care to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatrics.
  • Conduct must reflect the company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct.
  • Reflect SDH Service Excellence standards in every interaction.
  • Consistently produce scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.
  • Operate the Ultrasound units efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the operating parameters of the scanner
  • Document, on PACS or in writing, information seen during exam.
  • Complete quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organize and prioritize workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scanning trauma, acute & challenging patients; possess skill to modify positioning and scanning factors when standard cannot be performed.
  • Relay to Cardiologist any relevant patient information.
  • Possess know ledge of disease processes and images these findings adequately; communicates them to the Cardiologist.
  • Assist physicians performing invasive exams.
  • Perform procedures in OR.
  • Coordinate procedures with other departments
  • Complete required documentation on forms, logs and in computer.
  • Obtain all pertinent patient history, and relay it to the Cardiologist to assist in diagnosis or treatment.
  • Review written orders, assesses patient identification and ensures indicators are appropriate prior to procedure.
  • Understand the needs of Cardiologist or performing physician during invasive procedures, and have good know ledge of biopsy and aspiration supplies including the charges.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform organizational and related duties in Ultrasound.
Qualifications of the Echo Technologist

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited school of cardiac ultrasound
  • 1-3 years of experience in echocardiography

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:

  • Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
