Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Trauma Data Analyst- RN required.

In this role, the successful candidate NYU Langone Health is seeking an experienced Trauma Registrar, committed to abstracting and analyzing high quality, standardized trauma data. Under the supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma PI Coordinator, the trauma registrar is responsible for the trauma registry including accuracy, completeness, confidentiality of information collected and entered into the registry. The trauma registrar analyzes and interprets all available patient data to determine coding classifications in compliance with the American College of Surgeons and State of New York requirements. The trauma registrar determines selection, evaluation and analysis of diagnosis in order to satisfy criteria for abstracting and entry into trauma registry and actively works to supply data to be utilized for the process of analysis of patient care and identification of opportunities for improvement using data.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Performs comprehensive concurrent chart review and has primary responsibility for trauma registry data collection, including data entry, database management, data validation, injury coding and scoring, statistical data analysis and report design. All registry records will be closed within 30 to at a maximum, 60 days of patient discharge.
    • Works closely with trauma registry vendors to assure timely resolution of problems and to implement revisions and upgrades to the system as they become available.
    • Ensures compliance with New York State (NYS) Department of Health, National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS), and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) regulatory requirements; reviews and exports all reportable cases to the NYS Trauma SAS System/Image Trend, and TQIP according to Data Submission Schedule. Communicates any issues immediately to the Trauma Program Manager or Trauma PI Coordinator.
    • Identifies and utilizes the principles for various scaling and scoring tools such as ICD-10-CM, Abbreviated Injury Scale, and Injury Severity Score. Escalates discrepancies and/or inquires to the Lead Trauma Registrar.
    • Supports Trauma Program Performance Improvement and Injury prevention initiatives by providing accurate and timely data and reports, noting new trends and issues and informing Trauma Program Leadership promptly when an issue is identified.
    • Actively participates in all trauma related performance improvement and patient safety program in conjunction with Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.
    • Collects, measures, customizes, and creates data fields and reports to optimize efficiency of registry and facilitate issue identification and reporting.
    • Provides reports for monthly Trauma PI meetings no later than 1 week prior to the meeting.
    • Provides monthly reports to Admin Director including trauma volumes, admissions, activations, and EMS transports
    • Provides accurate quality and data reports for meetings and surveys by regulatory agencies.
    • Performs other assigned duties as designated by the Trauma Program leadership.
    • Participates in all trauma center activities and attends national, regional and state programs.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a NYS RN licensure is required. Experience with abstracting or medical record coding with knowledge in patient care databases (e.g., EPIC, NTRACS) is preferred.
International Classification of Disease (ICD) 10 Course, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Training Course, Trauma Registrar Course to be completed within 1 year of hire.
Board Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) from the American Trauma Society's Registrar Certification Board and Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine is required within 1 year of hire.
Accrues 8 hours of registry-specific continuing education per year is required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook). Must have effective verbal and written communication.
Familiarity with medical terminology. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously..

Required Licenses: Injury Scaling Course Cert, Trauma Registry Course Cert, Am Rgtry Diagn Med Sonographer

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Healthcare related field. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR).

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $75,186.80 - $125,311.68 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
