Job Summary: Responsible for the husbandry of all large feline areas.   Entry level training of tigers, lions and cougars. Tigers are managed in a free contact situation.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist in checking the appearance and health of the animals on a daily basis.
  • Act as a back?up to Senior Trainers in all weather conditions to ensure the safety of animals, guests and trainers.
  • Speak to the guests to educate the guests about the animals and to answer guest questions as needed during park hours.
  • Assist in the rotation of animals onto and off of each cat area as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Perform entry level training techniques with the animals; i.e. no biting, no claws, walk on a leash, milk behaviors, husbandry behaviors etc. under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Senior Trainers. Learn all essential commands and related behaviors.
  • On a daily basis clean all animal enclosures and compounds.
  • Pick?up and prepare animal diets on a daily basis.
  • Maintain log as needed concerning animal health, behaviors, enrichment and diet.
  • Learn the show scripts and perform in shows as assigned.
  • Adhere to all park & department policies.
  • Learn and follow proper protocol concerning the cats.
  • Assist in other animal areas as needed.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year previous experience handling or keeping exotic animals preferred.
  • Must be mentally alert and be able to pay attention to all daily duties.
  • Must possess ability to make appropriate decisions under pressure and in changing circumstances if immediate direction is unavailable.
  • Must have quick reflexes and be able to react quickly to changing animal situations.
  • Must be in excellent physical condition and possess the mental capacities to perform the essential job duties.
  • Must be able to lift animals and equipment up to 75 lbs. Must possess the physical dexterity to hold and maneuver equipment. Must be able to walk and run quickly as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, early mornings, and holidays.
  • Must be articulate and be able to speak and understand English. Must have good corrected/uncorrected vision and good hearing.
