JOB SUMMARY: The Creative technologist understands the creative process excels at prototyping, facilitating iterative testing, implementing changes, and demonstrating to relevant stakeholders. They are responsible across the development lifecycle from early phase prototypes to robust solution which exceeds Universal standards. They play a critical role with delivery teams insuring successful deployments. This role is responsible for bridging between ideas and emerging technology, curating creative ideas and translating them through innovative solutions that are technology-based. They are knowledgeable in the areas of ideation and visual design. They achieve these responsibilities by investigating, analyzing, and experimenting with emerging platforms. They have a strong collaborative side, especially with the Creative Studio, Core Engineering, Project and Entertainment teams. In addition, contact with relevant Tech Services and Operational team members and Comcast Corporate wide Innovative teams are highly valued. The Creative technologists must be a change agent who is open to feedback and comfortable handling risk and fluidity.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverages emerging and advanced technology to innovate and prototype first of kind theme park inventions. Manages software, network, mechanical and/or electronic architecture, design and technical reviews for various teams for inputs and to provide guidance for areas of risk or scope gaps. Works with Internal and External partners to ensure a clear line of technical understanding regarding system integration and testing activities. Provides subject matter expertise on one or more Ride and/or Show system disciplines, that include but not limited to Advanced Technologies, Audio, Special Effects, Projection, Lighting, Set/Scenic, Props, Show Action Equipment, Animated Figures, Ride Mechanical Systems, Ride Control, or Show Control Systems. Performs research, development, review, approval, and technical analysis under an area of responsibility.
  • Research and design systems, develop hardware/software specifications and scope of work documentation that will be bid to vendors. Perform technical analysis and systems research to assist in determining feasibility of systems to mitigate risk for product delivery. Makes direct engineering contributions to projects as required. Define and contribute to research and development scope, specification, design or analysis, and assistance for installation, test, and adjust.
  • Implement processes assigned to discover and develop research and development scopes, including mockups, proof-of-concepts and first articles. Develops and oversees project schedules and budgetary demands. Generates, edits, and updates engineering specifications and iterate on proof-of-concept designs, advancing requirements and designs as the team learns. Participate in the development of intellectual property.

  • Manages design and delivery reviews internally and externally ensuring product quality, specification conformance, and schedule accuracy. Manage modifications to systems as required based upon agile development. Drive technical improvements across all scopes.
  • Strong technical knowledge and leadership to provide integration guidance to project teams in support of the design, development and delivery of themed entertainment ride and show systems.
  • Stay up to date with the latest in technology and industry trends and introduce new technology concepts. Particularly as it relates to protecting the intellectually property associated with the implementation of emerging technologies. Work closely with Creative development teams on creating the concept of the overall experience and ensuring delivery meets all creative requirements.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Ability to prefer the following is required:

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of creative and technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to organize, manage, and analyze a complex series of tasks and/or data to design and develop advanced technologies
  • Comfortable Influencing decisions of major nature.  High degree of tact & diplomacy to obtain favorable decisions or maintain good will
  • Comfortable working in a non-routine environment with frequently changing situations

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in applicable technical field preferred or equivalent demonstrated skill and experience

EXPERIENCE: 5+ years’ experience in direct theme park specific technical/engineering roles required or similar experience in related technical field
