All aspects of the job may be learned on-the-job.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Basic math abilities. Use of material handling equipment and use of material handling techniques preferred (this may be learned on-the-job). Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast's mission and general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).EQUIPMENT USED: Typical material handling equipment.SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish may be acceptable, depending on location.Ability to perform routine work, adapting to change, as it relates to work flow without loss of efficiency.Ability to understand and accept directions and follow procedures.Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver in/out of trucks/trailers, walk up/down ramps and lift/stack donations.Ability to maintain self-control and work in cooperation with co - workers.Ability to meet and maintain established standards as communicated by supervisor.Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy.Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.EMOTIONAL EFFORT:The work is routine with occasional periods of high activity/demand, requiring little or no overtime to complete the work.JOB SETTINGWork is performed on covered, but unenclosed dock area. The temperature and exposure to elements will fluctuate depending on weather conditions. Dust and dirt is controlled by daily cleaning of work area. There are occasional fumes from the trucks. There is occasional handling of household toxic products received in donations. Work is completed independently but in cooperation with whole department. There is occasional contact with public who donate at the dock. The noise volume is moderately high throughout the day depending on the amount of activity, equipment and vehicles in operation and radio operation. Material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, movable containers/racks) and trucks may be operated in or near work area. The job includes occasionally walking on uneven ground when going up and down ramps or stairs; otherwise, ground/work surface is even.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe job requires consistent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
