Job Description

The Senior Tax Analyst will report to the Senior Vice President of Tax and be responsible for the preparation of tax returns including federal, state, and local returns. This position will also be responsible for REIT and joint venture compliance, in addition to tax planning duties and other special projects as assigned. This role will also work with third party service providers to communicate various tax matters.
 
  • Preparing federal and state work papers (including extensions) for tax returns including partnerships, REITs, and C Corporations
  • Reviewing and finalizing tax returns prepared by outside accounting firm
  • Monitoring state withholding and composite returns, resolving federal and state audits and notices 
  • Maintain all online tax payment accounts and initiate quarterly estimated income/franchise tax payments.
  • Performing quarterly asset tests and annual income tests for public REIT and private REITs
  • Monitoring taxable income and distributions for public and private REITs to ensure 100% of taxable income is distributed each year (including consent dividends)
  • Reviewing all proposed acquisitions and dispositions to identify any potential REIT compliance issues
  • Review lease tax diligence worksheets for REIT compliance
  • Calculate the REIT’s earnings and profits for purposes of determining the tax treatment of the company’s dividend payments to ensure proper reporting to shareholders on IRS form 1099-DIV. 
  • Send shareholder demand letters to applicable shareholders, and track responses to the letters.
  • Preparing quarterly federal and state tax provision for certain taxable REIT subsidiaries
  • Preparation of ASC 740 memo and related Unidentified Tax Position Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and departmental policies and procedures
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3-6 years tax accounting experience either in public accounting or with a real estate company (public REIT preferred)
  • Partnership Tax return experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or similar function; MS Tax and/or CPA a plus
  • REIT and Subchapter K taxation concepts – Federal and State
  • ASC 740 and other GAAP concepts
  • Sage FAS or comparable fixed asset accounting software, MRI or comparable GL software
