Description

Essential Functions

  • Assesses learning needs for the effective care of trauma patients across the continuum. Plans and implements trauma related training related to identified needs, and evaluates effectiveness of training.
  • Serves as the educational resource for trauma patient caregivers both intra-facility and regionally.
  • Collaborates effectively with EMS coordinator and trauma program manager to insure quality care for trauma patients across the continuum of care
  • Effectively collaborates with Injury Prevention to provide trauma education as well as trauma prevention strategies to the community.
  • Collaborates with marketing to increase community awareness of Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.
  • Assists in the development of public information and education programs for pediatric trauma outreach.
  • Assists the trauma program manager in QI initiatives to improve delivery of patient care.
  • Assists the trauma program manager and the medical director (s) in developing consistent educational offerings for prehospital and intra-hospital care providers
  • Identifies the learning needs of health care professionals as assessed via mail surveys, site visits and course evaluations. Provides pediatric trauma-related continuing education programs for the health care community (physicians, nurses, pre-hospital personnel, allied health professionals).
  • Assists in coordinating and/or teaching established pediatric trauma education programs: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR), Pediatric Trauma Boot Camp
  • Assists in coordinating and/or teaching additional established education programs: Pediatric Trauma Symposium, Physician CME and GME, Grand Rounds, EMS Week.
  • Assists the trauma program manager and the medical director (s) in creating a feedback loop with prehospital care providers to include a circular/continued dialogue that improves processes and performance.
  • Directs efforts to maintaining relationships with our emergency services agencies to provide follow-up on patient referrals and assuring timely feedback to emergency medical service staff.
  • Assists the trauma program manager and the medical director (s) in coordinating case conferences with referring hospital staff and emergency service agencies within our region.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work independently and conscientiously with a minimum of oversight.
  • Provides a high level of service to the community and maintains a professional and approachable demeanor.
  • Conducts off-site training and presentations to professional groups and the general public.
  • Reviews materials used for education on an annual basis to ensure consistency with best practice recommendations.
  • Promotes trauma standards of care according to nationally accepted American College of Surgeon's (ACS) guidelines.

Qualifications

Education

  • BSN required
  • Preferred education: Master’s in Nursing or related field from an accredited program. 

Work Experience

  • ·      3 to 5 years related RN work experience in the Emergency Department required/PICU experience preferred.
  • ·       Experience with education, teaching in clinical setting required /Clinical Educator experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrates skill in effective assessment of learning needs and teaching methods Required
  • Displays cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. Required
  • Interpersonal skills, leadership ability and experience in both clinical and education Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) required
  • EMT-P licensed to practice in the State of Ohio preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and PALS Required

    • Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) > Instructor Status Preferred/ within 1 year
    • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Valid Ohio Driver’s License required
