Summary

The Camp Director is responsible for the supervision of the campsite, planning of appropriate activities, and overall safety of staff and campers.

Qualifications

Camp Directors must be 18 years or older and able to work with staff and children. Applicants must have strong leadership and communication skills along with programming experience. Applicants must commit to working the entire length of the camp program. A CPR certification is required prior to the first day of camp. Preference will be given to certified, experienced teachers. You may be requested to drive your personal vehicle to and from the camp site to the Sullivan Center to pick up supplies.
Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Plan, coordinate, implement and supervise a well-organized, quality day camp program offering activities in the areas of arts and crafts, sports, games, outdoor recreation, field trips, special events, and leisure swim.
  2. Ensure camp environment promotes inclusivity, team focus and a fun recreational experience.
  3. Conduct on-site orientation for camp counselors (where applicable). Organize and conduct camp staff meetings as needed.
  4. Schedule, supervise and evaluate camp staff. Ensure camp staff adhere to their assigned work schedules and provide ongoing performance feedback.
  5. Establish camp rules and routines in collaboration with the Recreation Supervisor. Ensure that camp staff and participants know and follow safety and program procedures. Maintain a safe environment at all times.
  6. Act as a liaison between Recreation Supervisor and camp staff.
  7. Maintain communication lines with camp families through daily communication systems and communicate with any parent/guardian whose child is experiencing difficulty or experiences an injury.
  8. Group campers by age and friendship requests. Maintain accurate daily attendance records.
  9. Arrange a system for loading and unloading buses and parent drop off and pick up locations (where applicable).
  10. Maintain camper files including but not limited to Data Forms, Medication Dispensing Forms, etc. Ensure files are taken on field trips, to the Family Aquatic Center, and to any offsite activities.
  11. Maintain first aid kit inventory and ensure supplies are within their expiration dates. Notify the Supervisor when supplies need to be replenished. Ensure camp staff have travel first aid kits available at all times.
  12. Keep all Accident/Incident Reports on file. Turn in copies of reports to Supervisor daily. Communicate significant injury and incidents to Supervisor immediately and turn in the accident report as soon as possible.
  13. Develop a schedule for dispensing approved medication to campers and use the Medication Dispensation Form to record when medication is given. Properly secure and store all medications out of reach of children.
  14. Maintain camp supplies and equipment. Ensure camp staff have all necessary supplies and equipment to conduct camp activities. Inventory and request new camp supplies and equipment in a timely manner.
  15. Ensure camp staff keeps the site presentable and safe, including facility rooms, restrooms, outdoor recreation areas, and storage areas.
  16. Coordinate camp lost and found program.
  17. Organize and implement the camp lunch program (if applicable).
  18. Work with Recreation Supervisor to coordinate and implement counselor-in-training program (if applicable).
  19. Must be available 2-3 weeks prior to camp start date to complete prep work.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
