Essential Services Coordinator Focus Area: Warehouse South First Street Location: Onsite Position JOB ANNOUNCEMENT & DESCRIPTION Sacred Heart Community Service, located in San José, CA, is looking for an organized, community- oriented professional to join Sacred Heart's warehouse team. The Essential Services Coordinator is a member of the dynamic Essential Services team which consists of staff and volunteers that are responsible for operationalizing the direct delivery of food and clothing services to the community. This position on the interfaces with the public, develops relationships with volunteers, and engages members in the work of the warehouse and larger organization activities. They are self-directed, flexible, strong communicators, efficient multi-taskers, and have a skilled ability to manage difficult situations with compassion and respect. Most importantly, they must have a passion for our mission - to build a community free from poverty. For nearly 60 years, SHCS has been one of the leading institutions addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines meeting basic needs, offering tools for self-sufficiency, and providing opportunities for the wider community to get involved and take action. Position Summary Sacred Heart's warehouse team runs the daily operations of the clothes closet, pantry, and donation station. The position serves as the face of the organization, interfacing with donors and partner organizations that provide critical resources to preserve people's human rights and basic needs. Understanding the stress and trauma experienced by low-income individuals and families, the position guides our efforts to ensure everyone is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. The Coordinator engages volunteers through recruitment, training, strength-based management, and leadership development with contagious energy, passion, and a can-do attitude. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Warehouse Operations (70-75%) ? Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Essential Services Warehouse, including setting up and/or breaking down of the Clothes Closet, Donation Station, and Pantry for daily operations; coordinating and managing food and clothing deliveries/donations; executing SHCS ES systematic food distribution processes; managing food and clothing inventory; minimizing food waste. ? Operates warehouse specific equipment such as the electric pallet jacks and walk- behind forklifts. ? Implements and upholds department and agency policies and operational procedures pertaining to safety. ? Works with the Warehouse Manager to ensure the implementation and compliance with all relevant partnership agreements. ? Provides conflict resolution support, when necessary, to ensure that all members are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect always. ? Works in collaboration with the Welcome Center team to ensure smooth coordination between all Essential Services programs. ? Seeks feedback and member participation in shaping the program's process and goals. Member Engagement (15-20%) ? Conducts outreach to new and existing members to recruit, welcome, and orient them to the Essential Services programs. ? Trains, engages, follows up, and recognizes volunteer participation and leadership in programs and campaigns, using meaningful experiences as opportunities for the facilitation of transformational relationships and deeper involvement. ? Ensures member adherence to the SHCS code of conduct. ? Acts as a liaison between the Volunteer Office and warehouse team to ensure strength-based performance management and redirection as needed. ? Plans and coordinates bilingual/multilingual outreach to volunteers; organizes volunteer meetings to build an effective service and promotes participation and leadership of members and volunteers. Member Development (10-15%) ? Engages in advocacy activities and mobilizes participation of members in SHCS policy campaigns. ? Conducts member 1:1s for member leadership development. ? Cultivates the involvement of stakeholders to provide input training and program needs through program advisory committee(s) and supports adapting service delivery accordingly. ? Empowers volunteers and program participants providing clear vision, encouragement, modeling, and training, in alignment with SHCS's vision, mission, and values. ? Oversees daily operations and volunteer activities in the Essential Services Department, ensuring high-quality volunteer-led service opportunities that meet program participants' needs. ? Promote leadership and self-sufficiency within a social justice framework. Leadership (5-10%) ? Supports the planning and implementation of organization-wide programs, events, trainings, and outreach efforts, such as the holiday program, pack-a-back, and solidarity summit. ? Participates in staff meetings, retreats, trainings, and other team and organizational events. ? Performs other duties as assigned, including support for other Essential Services programs as needed. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENT: ? Strong commitment to our vision of uniting our community to ensure every child and adult is free from poverty. ? Minimum of an associate degree or equivalent experience in a related field. ? One or more years of demonstrated success working with volunteer groups or interns. ? Outstanding customer service skills. ? Bilingual in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin ? Flexible, compassionate, and supportive attitude. ? Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. ? Detail-oriented, ability to multitask, provide quick responses, and highly organized. ? Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite. ? Demonstrated success working in teams and the ability to work independently with limited supervision when necessary.? Ability to respond professionally to intense interpersonal situations with upset community members in moments of crisis. ? Available to work approximately one Saturday every four to six weeks. Ability to lift 30 lbs. without assistance and up to 50 lbs. with assistance. The position requires computer use or standing for up to 6-8 hours per day. Must complete a DMV and a background check and qualify to be insured under SHCS driving policy. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENT: Bilingual in English and Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin Chinese Experience with data management systems such as Salesforce OSHA training and certification Experience with and knowledge of best practices in food safety Experience and training in the safe use of pallet jacks and warehouse logistics REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Essential Services Coordinator reports to the Warehouse Manager. COMPENSATION: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Pay is commensurate with experience starting at $25 - $27 per hour.
