Software Development Manager

Manages the design and development of enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software. Plans and coordinates all activities associated software development and/or engineering projects. Ensures projects are completed on time and according to quality standards. Responsible for the employment, training, motivation, and evaluation of assigned staff. May lead planning and policy development issues.

Our work depends on a Software Development Manager joining our team to support the Alabama Supercomputer Authority's activities in Huntsville, AL.

As a Software Development Manager supporting the Alabama Supercomputer Authority, you will be trusted to assist in the leadership of our application development team and the many projects we support. You will be empowered to plan and coordinate activities associated our software development while working alongside an amazing, agile team supporting education and government agencies within the state of Alabama. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Collaborating with the Alabama Supercomputer Authority (ASA) and various Alabama state agencies to lead the building of enterprise applications that automate their processes, collect information, and provide them with the data they need to make important decisions that impact the world around us
  • Work with senior technical staff to provide solution architect and technology direction
  • Advise team members and help solve technical issues and remove impediments
  • Assist with staffing technical talent, mentoring and training team members to increase their technical skills and to improve the quality of work performed
  • Assist with developing and administering schedules and performance requirements
  • Assist with ensuring the most effective methodologies and tools are being used to deliver solid software products on schedule
  • Oversee management of multiple employees
  • Your success will be measured through the completion of assigned activities and projects, your impact in improving team skills and maintaining team morale, client satisfaction in the solutions we are delivering, and how you own and practice GDIT's values


WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or the equivalent combination of work experience

5+ years of Software Development

Preferred qualifications
  • Project management
  • Personnel management
  • Interfacing with clients, gathering requirements, and developing schedules
  • Mentoring and training developers and other technical staff
  • Finding solutions to technical challenges
  • Experience in the following technologies: .Net, C#, SQL Server, transactional databases, data warehousing, Entity Framework, SSIS packages, IIS, Microsoft TFS, DevExpress controls, and JavaScript
  • Continuous integration and DevSecOps processes and tools
  • Agile development, such as Scrum
