    Instructional design specialist works with a Senior Instructional Designer(s) and Trainer(s) to complete needs assessments, identify training goals, and develop learning objectives. Reviews and updates are existing training programs using content provided by subject matter experts (SME). Performs analysis and data gathering with SMEs as needed. Designs and develops program instructor-led and online course materials. Designers develop scenario-based training content and hand-on exercises for training. Uses e-Learning software applications and templates to update or develop online courses. They create program and course evaluations and tests based on course objectives. Facilitates training programs as needed. Evaluates overall program effectiveness and modifies program materials as needed.

    Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing

    • Applies relevant instructional design and Adult Learning Theory into content development to course materials.
    • Identifies appropriate training media, training formats, and blended courses to accommodate different learning styles and training audiences (onsite and virtual).
    • Assists in conducting in-depth job-task analysis and needs assessment to identify learning objectives and develop a learning strategy.
    • Applies design strategies and team design standards when developing course materials: PPT slides, hands-on activities, simulations, facilitator guides, online courses, job aids.
    • Demonstrates agility and flexibility when designing for programs in development and when business needs change.
    • Consults with business partners to determine the focus of training to aid the employee’s success on the job.
    • Works with business unit(s) subject matter experts (SMEs) and other team members to learn about products and processes for designing course materials.
    • Works as part of an educational team and business partners to assess learning outcomes.
    • Implement courses and curriculum enhancements based on auditing and business unit feedback.
    • Monitors course delivery and program effectiveness to ensure learning outcomes are achieved.

    Qualifications – what you need to perform the job

    EDUCATION: (Minimum educations & certifications required)

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
    • Formal coursework in learning design and adult learning theory with a clear ability to translate that knowledge into developing quality training solutions.
    • Working on or completed a master’s degree in instructional design is a plus.

    EXPERIENCE: (Years of experience)

    • 1 to 3 years of experience in delivering training or supporting the development of training materials or relevant educational work at the master’s level.
    • He or she has relevant experience working designing technical training for end users for a variety of learning modalities such as instructor-led training, online learning, and virtual learning environments.
    • Knowledge of the healthcare and insurance industries, as well as customer service, is a plus.

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS: (Include interpersonal skills)

    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication.
    • Apply project management techniques.
    • Possess a working knowledge of learning management systems such as Blackboard, Workday, Canvas, Moodle, & edX platforms.
    • Proficient in the use of rapid online learning tools such as Articulate 360.
    • Works collaboratively with other team members and across various departments and business units in a fast-paced environment managing multiple and concurrent demands. Proficient in Lotus Notes, MS Office suite, Screen capturing tools, and Adobe Creative Suite.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (include special requirements, e.g., lifting, travel, overtime). Employee must be able to exercise appropriate judgment and act independently when necessary — occasional travel required for offsite training.
