Salary Range: $47,403.20 ($22.79/hr.) - $71,094.40 ($34.18/hr.)

Grade: 107

Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm

Position Summary:

Under limited supervision of the Fleet Vehicle & Equipment Supervisor, performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance, diagnostics, and specialized repairs on all assigned gasoline and diesel-powered Fleet vehicles and equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
  • Performs diagnosis and repair of drivetrains for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
  • Performs diagnosis and repairs of support systems for gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to include electrical, fuel, braking, suspension, hydraulic, air conditioning, and automotive computer systems
  • Performs field services for the purpose of diagnosis and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
  • Documents daily work functions in Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other departments and department leaders, vendors, sales representatives, outside repair/service personnel, CWS Accident Review Board committee members, insurance company representatives, the public, etc.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and cleanup of assigned work area, equipment and tools
  • Subject to 24-hour on-call
  • May be required to work during hazardous weather and/or emergency conditions
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Job performance must conform to all CWS Policies and Procedures.
  • Specific knowledge of CWS Environmental Management System Policy and Procedures

Minimum Requirements

Physical Requirements, Activities, and Working Conditions
  • Ability to issue, receive and understand complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to express and receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine distinction in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machine parts
  • Ability to communicate verbal instructions quickly, loudly, and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to observe and comprehend computer screens and software to generate reports, specifications, memos, and letters
  • Ability to observe repairs and field work in progress
  • Subject to noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level; hearing protection required
  • Occasionally positions self to move, traverse and lift up to 25 lbs. to perform required work. Objects greater than 50 lbs. require a two-person operation.
  • Ability to reach, pull, handle documents, tools and equipment as required to perform routine tasks
  • Ability to work independently of others
  • Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward
  • Ability to operate and maintain motor vehicles
  • Subject to vibrations; exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities of whole body
  • Must be able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to perform the required essential functions
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of experience in predictive and preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to include, but not limited to: engine, transmission, drivetrain, electrical, brake, cooling, suspension, and automotive computer systems
  • Proficient knowledge of the principles, methods, standards, tools, and test equipment used in performing predictive and preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and efficiently use Microsoft Office software programs to include Word and Excel
  • Experience using a computerized work order system preferred
  • Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License required
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License Class A desirable
  • Section 609 Certification for automotive refrigerant or ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire
  • SC DHEC Underground Storage Tanks Class A/B Operator Training or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire
