About this unit 

The Helen DeVos Children's Surgery department completes over 8000 cases per year. It has 8 operating rooms including one with a fully integrated iMRI suite. HDVCH surgery is verified as a Level 1 Children's Surgery site through the American College of Surgeons. Our unit is staffed 24/7 with a team of RN’s and Surgical Technologists. Our physician teams consist of all pediatric certified Surgeons and Anesthesiologists. Helen DeVos OR supports a large variety of specialties including: ENT, General, Urology, Robotics, Plastics, Ortho/Ortho Spine, Cardiac, Dental, Burn, Ophthalmology, and Neurosurgery.

Scope of work 

The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. May serve as a Preceptor.

Qualifications 

  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent? 
  • Successful Completion of an Accredited School of Surgical Technology. Not all schools involve an Associate's degree. 
  • Surgical Technologist Experience (Clinical rotations do count as experience) Preferred 
  • AHA OR ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 Days of hire Required
