The role & Department

As a Senior Software Engineer, Data Visualization, R&D Digital Products you will join our IT R&D (Research & Development) Team and play a crucial role in enabling intelligent visualizations across various tools used in scientific data analysis and decision-making. The successful candidate will work with a team of developers, engineers, and architects to create data visualizations for innovative solutions that improve efficiency and productivity, supporting R&D business requirements. The Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for transforming complex data into actionable insights and have experience with visualization tools for Research, Discovery, and Development to enable data-driven insights to the R&D business.  

 

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Design, develop and implement data visualization tailored for R&D functions and related systems such as Research Informatics, SDMS (Scientific Data Management System), Lab Management Systems, Research Data products, Pathology, Imaging, Pharmacology, Development Operations etc

  • Design and create visually compelling and informative dashboards, reports, and interactive visualizations that are intuitive, user-friendly, and enable actionable insights

  • Deliver Data visualizations to improve speed and value for R&D Organization’s Clinical Trial programs and related functions such as eTMF, CTMS/Trial oversight, Medical and Safety dashboards, Biomarker data insights, Biomarker sample tracking, data quality oversight, and real-world evidence dashboards. Track potential risks for early identification and iterate to deliver updated enhancements

  • Working closely with development teams, data engineers and data scientists, operationalize advanced statistical and analytical models by building front-end user experiences, dashboards, and interactive elements

  • Implement data visualization solutions using tools such as Qliksense, Grafana, Kibana, R-Shiny dashboards, Spotfire, Tableau, D3, and PowerBI, interacting with scientific systems

  • Make data visualization accessible and understandable using FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability) for researchers, scientists, and other stakeholders

  • Build and deliver charts, graphs, maps to present different types of data, including data from AWS Data Lakes, data warehouse query optimized and non-optimized environments, and medallion architecture-oriented Lakehouse like constructs

  • Deliver natural language insights, ad-hoc analysis, data discovery, drag-and-drop visualization, and customizable extensions to tailor data visualization to specific business needs and requirements

  • Leverage visualization tools in DevOps for providing insights into the performance metrics of various systems and applications, real-time insights, tracking KPIs and identifying areas for continuous improvements

  • Collaborate with IT R&D POD Managers, Product Owners, and Business Leaders, in an Agile framework, to ensure alignment with business and scientific objectives

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Technical Product Owners, Technical Delivery leads, developers, data engineers, data scientists, AI/ML Engineers, and domain experts, to design data visualization solutions across R&D

 
Requirements 

  • Experience in Life Sciences, Biotech or Pharma industry is a must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field. Master’s degree preferred

  • At least 5 years of experience in data visualization development, testing, and deployment using cloud-based platforms and tools

  • Proven proficiency in at least three or more of the following tools – PowerBI, Tableau, Spotfire, R-Shiny dashboards, Grafana, Kibana or similar, and familiarity with data visualization best practices and principles

  • Proficient in one or more programming languages such as Python, R, JavaScript, and experience having worked with plotting libraries and data visualization packages

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts into clear visual representations

  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, is preferred

  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data is preferred

  • Certification in Data Visualization Fundamentals, Tableau, PowerBI, Infographics is nice to have. Additional certification in Cloud Computing, AI/ML is a plus

This role can be located in Copenhagen (DK) or Utrecht (NL) and is hybrid.
