What you will do:

Works with a variety of instrumentation, automation, data acquisition, audio/visual, and electrical equipment in support of the company’s activities, as directed, by performing the following duties directly, or through subordinates when so directed.

How you will do it:

  • Reads and interprets test plans, procedures, and schematics; using same determines set-up and gives feedback to design and engineering to finalize plans and procedures.
  • Calibrates, operates, and maintains instrumentation, automation, and data acquisition equipment.
  • Supports other technicians and engineers through the collection, documentation, and storage of test data and automation of various test set-ups.
  • Designs and fabricates electrical/mechanical test fixtures.
  • Creates and utilizes programs within the MET/CAL and LabVIEW programming environments.
  • Operates and troubleshoots a wide variety of audio/visual equipment.
  • Assists in the development of calibration and other relative procedures.
  • Exercises troubleshooting skills and determines corrective actions for abnormal conditions for instrumentation and acquisition systems.
  • Collects and reduces operational and test data and information.
  • Works with other technicians and personnel to meet program requirements.
  • Assists Sr. Instrumentation Technicians (Level IV) and/or Test Engineers with advanced data acquisition and automation projects.
  • Provides guidance to and trains associates as required.
  • Evaluates, researches, and recommends all types of instrumentation, audio/visual, and electrical equipment for procurement as required. Contacts vendors and generates purchase requisitions to procure necessary items.
  • Provides backup protection using appropriate equipment and PPE during fire testing.
  • Operates forklifts as required.
  • Performs various housekeeping duties.
  • Identifies and assists in remediation of any and all safety hazards in the work place.
  • Maintains a good safety record.
  • Performs all elements of the job in accordance with established procedures.
  • Any other duties assigned by leadership.

What we look for:

  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate degree in electrical engineering technology or related field; or five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with ISO 17025 required.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and understand written instructions, e.g. safety notices and rules, test procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, etc. Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in all basic math functions, e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply advanced math functions, e.g. trigonometry and algebra.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications. Demonstrated proficiency with MET/CAL and LabVIEW software programs. Ability to type strongly preferred.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Demonstrated excellent aptitude in calibration, automation, data acquisition, and other electrical applications. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Excellent ability to reason in a teamwork atmosphere. Ability to learn, change, and adapt as needed.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, and controls. The employee is often required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds. The employee must be able to distinguish colors.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • The work environment consists of a number of lab areas and machine shop areas. While the Company makes every effort to reduce and eliminate all safety hazards, this type of environment does involve safety hazards which require extra care on the part of the employee. Such hazards include but are not limited to: moderate to high pressure test gases and liquids in test systems; extreme high and low temperature test fluids and items; high electrical voltages; chemicals; and sharp objects, such as might be generated around machine tools. The noise in the work environment is moderate. Temperature extremes are regulated, but not as closely as typical indoor offices. PPE will be provided when necessary.
