Leidos has an immediate need for a full-time Sr. Program Engineer to provide technical support to the W87-1 Modification Program. Duties include coordination of day-to-day operations across the geographically dispersed M&O contractors, review and advise on matters pertaining to planning, integrating, and executing policies, programs, and procedures for development of guidance in resolving issues related to this weapon system.

This is a full-time contractor-support position located on-site at the NNSA offices in Albuquerque, NM.

The successful candidate will be experienced in weapon assembly/disassembly, environment response, and hazard analysis and will; apply broad and diversified knowledge of respective nuclear weapons systems engineering, non-nuclear component realization, nuclear material production and component development, product realization process, Phase 6.X activities and deliverables, and program management disciplines. Analyze information and ensure system requirements are being met to inform federal decision makers during Gate Reviews.  Apply process improvement practices for system development life cycle. Understand and implement standard practices and procedures defined in nuclear weapon acquisition requirements. Exercise judgment and accomplish goals based upon program planning and mission performance.  Work independently and creatively under general supervision.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the translation of requirements, interfaces, scope linkages between sites, and technical risk mitigation strategies into an integrated schedule with associated cost and risk contingency analysis.
  • Drawing from design and/or production experience, advise the Federal Program Office (FPO) on program execution and associated impacts to cost, scope, and schedule. Represent, within program guidance, the NNSA’s program interests and positions in interactions with other agencies and corporate entities.
  • Apply systems engineering principles (such as requirements and interface management, risk management, work breakdown structure, decision analysis) for the development and update of an integrated program baseline.
  • Understand federal requirements and guidance to independently analyze, evaluate, and integrate solutions for unusually complex and diverse technical problems related to design and production.
  • Provide technical support for the Operations and Logistics Integrated Product Team.
  • Identify, track, mitigate, and resolve technical risks and issues related to product and/or system performance objectives.
  • Attend and represent the FPO in Project Officer Group and sub-group meetings (joint DoD/NNSA) within guidance provided by the Federal Program Manager and/or Lead Engineer.
  • Conduct assessments of required capabilities and capacity of the NNSA weapons production complex to support the W87-1 Program and assist in resource planning based on this information.
  • Take the lead in special topic engagements as assigned.

Required Education, Experience & Other:

  • Active DOD Top Secret or DOE Q clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science, Business, Program/Project Management, or closely related field with 15+ years of experience managing nuclear weapons system sustainment or acquisition, OR Masters degree in Engineering or Science, Business, Program/Project Management, or closely related field with 13+ years of experience managing nuclear weapons system sustainment or acquisition.
  • Experience in assembly/disassembly operations, environment response, and hazard analysis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NNSA Nuclear Weapon programs and activities; missions, policies, and objectives; management principles and processes with emphasis on the 6.X process and Defense Programs Business Process System.
  • Experience with programmatic and portfolio analysis tools, databases, and methodologies.
  • Nuclear weapon delivery platforms experience desired.
  • Managing interdisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of program and project management/scheduling tools and techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience in writing and editing briefings for senior and executive managers.
  • The ability to travel as business needs require (up to 10%)

Pay Range:

Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
