TDS is looking for a

Sales Engineer (SE)

to be the primary presales technical resource for the outside and inside sales force and is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales teams as the key technical advisor and product advocate for our products. This includes being able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users, being able to identify all technical issues of assigned accounts to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process, and being able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.

The

Sales Engineer

supports the sales force in attaining their stated revenue objectives by providing presales technical assistance on all voice, data, IP and converged data/voice networks. This includes the network, infrastructure and all hardware including CPE and business systems. The SE provides detailed network design, engineering recommendations and network consulting for the opportunities that are identified by the sales force. A significant emphasis of this position will be on technical leadership, which includes maintaining and upgrading the technical expertise of our entire commercial sales team. This position requires a high level of industry expertise in voice applications, data network hardware, LAN/wireless/WAN designs, network protocols including IP applications and architectures.

Responsibilities

Provide pre-sales consultation and assist the sales team in the discovery process for opportunities. Provide strategic, long-term planning with sales teams on prospective opportunities. Actively participate in sales calls for more challenging solutions including managedIP, data applications, private networks and business systems. Attend a minimum number of appointments

Gather pertinent data and inputs from the customer site and IT vendor. Research possible solutions including contacts with vendors and our Network Services group. Design, configure and price all complex voice and data networks and provide sales engineering expertise for complex sales opportunities. Develop business cases (CAA) and manage them through Clarity in a timely manner with thorough review and approval

Design practical and cost effective solutions that meet customer needs, utilize our existing or planned network, and ensure maximum reliability. Provide technical specifications, network designs for sales proposals and bids. Jointly present solutions to customers, support recommendations and answer pertinent questions. Follow up with appropriate documentation.

As assigned for complex network or business systems solutions, manage transition from design and sale to implementation by our Network Services and Network Operations group. Working in concert with a Project Coordinator, supervise installation, test and turn up and maintain contact with the customer’s technical staff

Prepares and presents training sessions at lunch and learns, sales meetings and outside engagements.

Maintains technical expertise by meeting with OEMs and vendors to evaluate product and service offerings.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years professional work experience

5 + years telecommunications experience

Must have and maintain a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and insurance

Other Qualifications

Demonstrated Expertise with network design, implementation, routing, switching, LAN wiring, wireless access points, firewalls, multiplexors, DACS, T3/T1/DS0's

Appropriate current or previous industry certifications including for example: BICSI (RCCD and/or LAN specialist), CCNA, CCDA, or Microsoft (MCSE).

Strong knowledge in TCP/IP, IPX, Ethernet, Frame Relay and Packet Switching, ATM and Cell Switching, Virtual Private Networks, IP tunneling, sub-netting and Network address translations, and VOIP.

Extensive experience with installations, migrations, systems integrations and network operations.

Experience working in a solutions sales organization with an advanced understanding of sales cycles and solutions selling process with formal training in strategic value selling is a plus.
