About the Position:
Finance Operations, Associate/Analyst/Senior Analyst, Financial Close is responsible for closing processes within Record to Report. Supports and provides guidance to Finance Operations on close processes. Ensures processes are followed, and maintains communication of the month / quarter close calendar and checklist.
Reports to the Manager, Financial Close Process and supports the development of close policies, procedures, standards and templates.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Responsible for the overall coordination of the monthly close process including developing and managing the progress of the monthly close schedule
Works with counterparts within the finance organization to identify and resolve issues during the monthly close process on a timely basis.
Ensures the necessary retention of documentation of key controls associated with the monthly close process
Organizes and leads daily meetings during the close process to review close progress and any issues identified in that process.
Develops written communications to update the larger finance community of the status of the close and any issues identified.
Develops and maintains the Monthly Close and Manual Journal Entry SharePoint
Continually works on enhancements to streamline the current close and Manual Journal entry processes.
Responsible for the maintenance of the Manual Journal Accounting Policy and related Manual Journal Templates.
Performs periodic quality review of Manual Journal Entries to ensure consistency with our established process, investigating any outliers.
Performs queries in BI/HANA in order to obtain relevant information regarding Manual Journal Entries and Settlements. May also be required to create BI/HANA reports and/or liaison with the Finance Business Intelligence team on reports.
Develops, maintains, and analyzes results related to the Monthly Close HUB, as well as present results to the wider Finance audience
Works with internal and external auditors regarding audit support.
Organizes and leads meetings and presentations to a wide range of audienc
Provides support by analyzing financial close process standards and transactions.
Records and evaluates financial close accounting practices and activities.
Documents issues and close impacts to ensure processes are kept consistent.
Provides administrative support in monitoring allocation or accounting issues that impede the close process.
Assists in researching activities of accounting standards and reporting practices applied to financial close.
Assists in maintaining files to support documentation of month-end close and reporting policies to perform closure routines.
Supports the review of financial balance sheets to meet close expectations and identify any risks.
Responsible for supporting financial and non-financial controls to meet business requirements.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Experience Required:
Knowledge & experience in the following areas is preferable:
Accounting knowledge
Attention to detail
Technical Accounting
General Accounting
Identify patterns and trends
Utility industry accounting
US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC regulations and IFRS
Process Management
Month-end close processes
Risk mitigation
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor?s preferred with 3 years in Accounting with increasing responsibility
Demonstrated ability to lead and establish close processes
Background in utility service or similar industry accounting
Ability to develop calendars to lead the close process
Proven experience in assessing close and reporting risks
Effective collaboration and partnership capabilities
Excellent written / oral communication skills and follow-up
