Job Description

IDS Manufacturing Operations has an opportunity an Industrial Engineer (Lean Leader) to drive operational excellence. Operational Excellence is achieved through the mindset and practice of continuous improvement. We are focused on delivering superior and affordable solutions for our customers.

The Industrial Engineer will leverage Raytheon’s world-class design and manufacturing capabilities to drive optimal producibility decisions throughout all stages of the factory life cycle. In this role, you will be responsible for addressing the Operations key focus areas relating to cycle time improvements and smooth production flow rates. In addition, significant effort will be applied to re-enforcing the operating philosophy of Total Employee Engagement and fostering employee idea generation. You will also drive the elevation of the lean skill set throughout the population of IDS, integrate lessons learned from industry and other programs to drive affordability while maximizing performance.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Industrial Engineer is responsible for:

Strategy Execution – Execution of strategic initiatives, development of Lean / R6sigma® plans, and driving operational excellence in support of IDS and the Enterprise; implementation and continuous improvement of program and business process enablers; and optimization of Standard Work processes based on experiences with prior program deployments.

Technical Expertise – Collaborating with and provide technical expertise during Engineering, Operations, and ISC collaboration efforts related to producibility, manufacturing process standardization strategies, and technology insertion.

Measurable, Sustained Results – Develop and maintain optimal, standardized processes related to lean maturity; capability characterization; and continuous improvement of Manufacturing Operations processes to drive capability maturity and growth. Utilize tools to conduct process simulation, discrete event simulations and capacity modeling through data analytics to improve factory throughput and unit hour reductions

Driving Operational Excellence – Coordinate w/ continuous improvement value stream leads to ensure cross-factory knowledge sharing and process, tool and technology standardization. Develop and maintain elements of manufacturing process standardization; establish metrics consistent with business objectives that are actionable across all work centers; deploy and teach in work center environments the common, standardized, and automated tools for measurement and analysis of operational performance and effectiveness.

This position can be a Salary Grade G06 or Salary Grade G07 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position

Required Skills:

  • Understanding/knowledge of lean manufacturing processes
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Desired Skills:

  • MS in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience implementing and applying Lean manufacturing tools & principles
  • Process Simulator or Simul8 (Discrete Event Simulation), Siemens Process Simulate (Factory Visualization),
  • Expert in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word
  • Experience deploying and/or leading new product or process introduction for large and complex systems
  • Raytheon R6sigma Expert Certification (provisional acceptable)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IPDS
  • EVMS Certification
  • Experience with Waste Elimination Techniques … Muda and Muri
  • Experience with Change Management and Value Stream Mapping
  • Proven Experience with WiP management modeling and Cycle Time Reduction
Required Education (including Major):

BS in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, or related field
