Job Summary
 
The Store Manager is responsible for the overall retail store management and operations in compliance with the guidance set forth in the contract to operate a retail store at a military installation.
 
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Supervise, manage and apply effective retail operations, customer service and inventory control.
  • Develop and provide plans for store operations include operational hours store inventory, layout and management plan
  • Answer customer questions, handle customer complaints in a cordial manner, implement customer suggestions on how to render better service in the stores and departments.
  • Maintain access control to the stores to ensure sales are limited to authorized customers per military installation policies.
  • Create effective work schedules for staff to ensure continuity of services, operations and hygiene.
  • Create discrepancy reports when the merchandise/product invoices do not match receiving reports.
  • Study sales trends, authorize clearance sales and determine appropriate sales promotions.
  • Utilize authorized ordering and receiving business systems.
  • Develop and implement safety programs for retail store services per OSHA and NFPA standards..
  • Conduct packaging, labeling and pricing for merchandise products.
  • Manage and utilize first-in/first-out method for merchandise rotation and inventory control.
  • Maintain excellent hygiene throughout all store spaces and facilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Supervisory skills; working knowledge operating and managing a retail store
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with customers and other personnel
  • Ability to apply skills necessary to evaluate and resolve complex problems and situations
  • Exercise strong multi-tasking and time-management skills
  • Apply personnel and materials management skills for the efficient operation of the store.

Experience & Education

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prefer: Bachelor’s degree from a four year accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years’ experience in retail operations

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Position will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions. Occasional stateside travel.
