As a Technical Support Engineer for Environmental Test, the candidate will be responsible for designing test setups, developing instrumentation plans, and overseeing the setup and operation of data acquisition equipment in support of testing for engineering development programs.
Environmental Test (ET) is an engineering organization that supports most engineering programs across Raytheon Missile Systems. The ET organization provides testing capability for every phase of the product life cycle from prototype to production. Environmental testing includes mechanical shock, electrodynamic vibration, salt fog, climatic environments such as temperature, humidity, and altitude, high temperature quartz lamp testing, structural testing, and custom instrumentation installations and data acquisition support.
The Technical Support Engineer is responsible for executing a variety of environmental tests while collaborating in an integrated product (IP) team environment with fellow ET Support Engineers, ET Test Engineers, and internal engineering customers. The Technical Support Engineer will work within the IP team to develop the best methods for implementing tests to meet customer requirements and is responsible for all aspects of the test including test design and setup, equipment control and monitoring, and data collection. The Technical Support Engineer is responsible for performing troubleshooting and adjustment of both the equipment and test setup when technical issues arise. The Technical Support Engineer will report to the Environmental Test Operations Manager within the Systems Test Directorate. The candidate will work in a Multi-Program Closed Area.
Develop and execute instrumentation, signal conditioning and data acquisition plans for testing engineering hardware on mechanical shock and electrodynamic vibration test systems as well as for climatic environmental chambers in support of testing for temperature, humidity, altitude and Highly Accelerated Life Tests (HALT)
Troubleshoot instrumentation equipment, data acquisition systems, and test setups to identify and remedy issues with correct operation
Implement engineering best practices to ensure tests are being run correctly and the gathered data is accurate
Safeguarding of classified/proprietary material, hardware and documentation
Experience developing environmental tests and standard operating procedures in the defense industry
Experience developing data collection techniques
Ability to identify test design equipment and deficiencies and analyze test results and provide recommendations on revisions and improvements of Environmental Tests
Utilize computer aided design equipment and software such as Dewetron, Dewesoft, LabView, Agilent/Keysight Benchlink, Somat, or equivalent to convert sensor signals into a form that can be converted to digital values.
Experience working with instrumentation such as accelerometers, strain gages, and thermocouples
Experience setting up and troubleshooting signal conditioners and data acquisition systems
This position requires the ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance
High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously
Good Communication and teaming skills to work with diverse groups and internal customers
Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft office tools including: MS Word and MS Excel.
Hands on mechanical, electrical, and computer skills
Experience working with vibration test systems and controllers
Knowledge of how to program PID control systems
Technical writing experience
The ideal candidate is someone who possess strong instrumentation and data acquisition skills along with vibration test experience. They are also a motivated hands-on, self-starter who cheerfully accepts work assignments and diligently drives to complete them. They are creative and innovative, possessing coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
