Raytheon Missile Systems is the world’s largest missile producer. RMS is responsible for the design, test, manufacture, and support of weapon systems equipping the US warfighter and our international allies to meet a large variety of demanding mission requirements. Every missile system produced by Raytheon contains advanced electrical subsystems. These enable target detection, target tracking, guidance, navigation, signal processing, and communication in extreme battle-field environments. The Electrical Subsystems Directorate (ESD) is responsible for all aspects of these subsystems’ design, test, and production.

Job Description:

The Electronics Product Development and Prototyping Department, a part of ESD, is currently searching for a Technical Support Engineer with experience in performing test and troubleshooting to the component level utilizing schematics and test equipment.

Responsibilities include performing electrical tests and troubleshooting on subassemblies, assemblies, and systems for conformance to specifications. Understanding and applying the theory of operation for the unit under test to enable determination of faulty product for design, workmanship, environmental and/or component defects.
Responsibilities may contain aspects of one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Signal processing - analysis and manipulation of signals. Signals can be either analog or digital.
  • Communications - transmission of information across a channel such as a co-axial cable, optical fiber or free space.
  • Electromagnetics - includes Electromagnetic waves, Transmission Lines and Waveguides, Antennas, Radio-Frequency (RF) and Microwaves.
  • Controls - flight and propulsion systems.
  • Power - generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity as well as the design of related devices. These include transformers, electric generators, electric motors, high voltage engineering, and power electronics.
  • Operate environmental test chambers as required
  • May be required to perform installation tasks such as Soldering, Cable Dressing, and coaxial Connectors.
  • The position requires multi-tasking to support several programs concurrently and will require local travel between sites as required.

Required Skills:
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to read, understand and accurately follow prints, schematics, sketches, as well as work from verbal and/or written instructions including test procedures.
  • Experience performing test, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and installs on a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical, radio frequency (RF), laboratory and scientific systems and/or assemblies.
  • Experience in performing installation tasks such as Soldering, Cable Dressing, and coaxial Connectors.
  • Experience interfacing with a variety of engineering and management staff.
  • Experience using time-management skills to plan tasks to ensure timely completion and/or obtaining needed support.
  • Experience explaining basic technical knowledge and document descriptions of technical solutions.
  • Experience working in a multiple discipline integrated product development team environments to successfully execute tasks and deliver high quality work.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Have strong working knowledge in use of basic and complex test equipment to include, high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, etc.
  • Have experience in the realm of assembly verification test and integrated assembly.
  • Must have strong desire to learn and contribute in a teaming environment

Required Education:

High School Diploma or GED and 8 years directly related experience
OR Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or four (4) year electronics apprentice program.
