Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer SR reports to the Project or Program Manager and is responsible for developing and supporting oil field equipment used by C&J Energy to deliver superior services to our customers.  The Mechanical Engineer SR will work with Operations and Sales to understand the product requirements, and then work independently or within a team, to develop a product that meets the specified requirements.  The Mechanical Engineer SR will develop and oversee testing programs to verify product performance, and interface with Manufacturing to safely produce a cost-effective product.  This position may manage large projects and supervise the designers and technicians that make up the project team. A Bachelor's degree is required.

Key Accountabilities

  • Research current and future technology needs by investigating current failure modes and understanding future trends.
  • Develop key/differentiating technology requirements.
  • Design product, tooling and test fixture designs that consider function, performance, manufacturing and maintenance.
  • Conduct risk analysis and develop analysis, simulation and test programs.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and simulations to include stress, strain, shock/vibration, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
  • Lead engineering, qualification, and field tests.
  • Work with tool manufactures to develop best practices for product maintenance procedure.
  • Establish production and supply chain, including implementation of manufacturing, assembly and testing methods and equipment.
  • Establish field support. Monitor operational performance. Resolve failures and propose improvements.
  • Lead improvements in the product development process. Mentor other team members.
  • Related work as required.
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of manufacturing drawings and develop maintenance procedures

  • Knowledge of and skill in mechanical engineering analysis, simulations and testing.
  • Knowledge of and skill in product design and risk management.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic fracturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of oilfield equipment manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of technology needs and trends.

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred
  • More than 10 years of relevant experience in Hydraulic Fracturing equipment/products required
  • More than 10 years in oilfield equipment design and testing required


Required Travel:  10% - 25%
